Ranking 1st in Alabama and 11th in the DigitalSports National Football Rankings, Hoover High School has been rolling through their playoff campaign thus far. Coming off a 41-7 victory over Huntsville a week before, the Buccaneers defeated Shades Valley 33-14 on November 15.
Getting off to a slow start offensively, Hoover’s defense stepped up to hold the Mounties to only seven first half points. Throughout the game, the Bucs held Shades Valley under an average of three yards per carry, forcing four turnovers and allowing only 178 yards.
After a 10-point first half, the Buccaneers’ offense finally found some rhythm in the second half. Marking nine points in the third quarter, Hoover added on 14 to close the game out in the fourth.
Junior Bradrick Shaw was the high point of Hoover’s talented offense. The running back carried the ball 27 times, gaining 134 of the Bucs’ 249 total offensive yards and two touchdowns.
Though Shades Valley tried to prohibit Marlon Humphrey from getting the ball, the senior returned an 82-yard kickoff return after a safety in the third, boosting Hoover’s lead to 19-7, giving the Bucs the boost they needed to win.
Now Hoover prepares for their next playoff challenger, Florence High School, on November 22.
